Satin’s glossy, smooth surface helps your face and hair glide over it, thus helping to reduce wrinkles around your eye, cheek and mouth area. Cotton and flannel crease, which ends up leaving those lines on your face. Satin pillowcases could mean the difference between premature aging, an they help keep your nighttime products in your skin compared to cotton/flannel pillowcases. This helps your skin to stay moisturized. Satin does not tug at your hair and does not strip your hair and skin of it’s natural and important oils, and might even help reduce split ends. It could help with acne prone skin because dirt and bacteria cannot cling to it so easily, due to the smooth finish,. The smoother and shinier satin is, the more hygienic and easier it is to keep clean.
You need to wash your pillowcases every 2-3 days to keep it fresh and clean.
Curly hair
Satin pillowcases are the best thing for curly hair, because it preserves your curls for much longer and reduces tangles. Your blow wave should last longer, and you don’t wake up with bed hair.
I interviewed my daughter who has the thickest curliest hair ever. Hayley has been using a satin pillowcase for about 4 years.
This is her story.
Q – What difference have you seen from using the satin pillowcase?
A – Well it makes my curls less frizzy and less knotted. Inevitably I will have knots, but I have less with a satin pillowcase. In my opinion and from what I see, I haven’t had split ends since I stopped straightening my hair, but the satin pillowcase is gentler and doesn’t tug on your hair, so I guess it causes less breakage. Also, since bacteria doesn’t easily cling onto satin, it’s okay to go to bed with damp hair because many curly girls wash or prep their hair in the early evening, ready for the next day.
Q – How has it lessoned your prep of your hair compared to when you slept on cotton?
A – Well… with a satin pillowcase I just get up and go. With a cotton one I may have had to fix some curls here and there.
Q – Okay, so it keeps your hair curly for longer than the cotton, hence you don’t have to wash it every day. The condition of your hair – was it dry, did you notice a difference with satin and cotton?
A – Yes. The satin preserves your curls. I can’t say I’ve noticed a difference in moisture retention though.
Q – So you have been using the satin pillowcase for about 4 years right? Have you seen a difference on your face?
A – Yes, I think maybe it’s clearer, and I don’t get those sleep wrinkles on my face.
True story from a curly haired girl.
Much love
Amanda
